Happy Wednesday! In today’s edition of Trending I played around to create this bright and bold summer makeup tutorial. It’s very much French-countryside-meets-Spanish-Fiesta, and I’m SUPER loving this aesthetic! It’s something different for me since I’m very much a neutrals and subtle colors gal. This still feels very much me, and truthfully, I feel really effing CUTE wearing it.
Being bold means something different to everyone. We all find confidence within ourselves through different outlets. I used to buy eyeshadow palettes with gorgeous rich colors but never dared to use them. I hesitated to just let go and have fun because I was wary of people staring at me funny or think I was “weird” for wearing such bold colors. It’s so much more exhausting caring about what the wrong people think. It truly is easier to let that shit go and only focus on the opinions of the people who are important to you. Makeup has been one of those outlets that has given me the freedom to explore the depths of my creativity and self-expression. It’s not that serious, and it’s so dumb to let those beautiful shades I have go to waste because of thoughts that people MAY NOT EVEN HAVE.
My final piece of cheesiness in this post- my soul feels at peace when I do my makeup. It’s become so clear to me that it’s more than aesthetics and being superficial. It’s an art form. It brings people together and makes them feel good about themselves. When something touches you that deeply and positively, it brings out the best in you- and that’s what Emphasis is about.
Admittedly this look isn’t at all creative, but I felt good doing it AND wearing it. An effortless wash of color on the lid is the best way to be bold and playful yet looks like you didn’t try at all- and that’s what summer is about! I love this technique because it makes bold and unique colors approachable. It’s not too overpowering or intimidating- it’s the cool girl of eyeshadow technique. Some of my favorite Instrammers/Youtubers that I look to for inspiration are Katie Jane Hughes, Mariah Leonard, and Allana Davison.
In this summer makeup tutorial, I used three different eyeshadow palettes today (whoops), but only 4 total shades! Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam, Colourpop X Kathleen Lights Zodiac Palette, and Alamar Cosmetics Reina del Carible Vol. 1. I used Siena (Soft Glam) and Taurus (Zodiac) to define the crease. Siena is an earthy brown and Taurus more camel, so they create this rich mid-tone shade. It’s pulling orange in the picture below, which would also work if you wanted to make it more tropical! I then combined two different aqua shades Celia (Reina del Caribe) and Pisces (Zodiac) to create that punch of color. I NEVER wear shades this powerful, so I had extra fun with this one!
My base, which won’t change in any summer makeup tutorial I post, is as follows: I prime with my moisturizer and use the Dior Backstage Face and Body Foundation. A little Tarte Shape Tape under the eyes to conceal and a little Maybelline Fit Me Loose Setting Powder to set. I warm the face with Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer and Essence Coral Blush. Shoutout to Colourpopr Flexitarian for that glow! To bring the look together, I used Dose of Colors A Mauve Story liquid matte lipstick.
My headband is from Zara and my earrings from H&M. Baby hairs and frizz brought to you by overdoing my hair, and sunburn from me not evenly putting on sunscreen.
I hope you enjoyed following this easy summer makeup tutorial as much I enjoyed doing it!
Until next time,
