August Favorites

August Favorites

Fall is my favorite season for many reasons- the weather, the symbolic meaning of a fresh start, and pumpkin ice cream. In anticipation for the change of season, I wanted to share all my August favorites in beauty, fashion, and overall life! I’ve used these favorites more days than not, and I feel like they are great transitions to also bring you into fall.

Overall August was a pretty average month. I spent a couple weekends in Boston, which I love, but other than that nothing crazy went on. Life has been relatively quiet, so I’m excited for September/fall in general. I have a feeling the fall is going to be an exciting time for me, so I’m ready to jump right in and see what’s in store. Now lets get into my August favorites!

Urban Decay Born to Run Palette

This has been one of my favorite purchases all summer! This palette is a gorgeous range of everyday neutrals, easy midtones, and rich jewel tones (one of fall’s biggest beauty trends). The formula is overall softer, more buttery, and less chalky compared to the Naked Palettes. The mix of warm and cool shades gives you enough options for pretty much anything. I haven’t been disappointed with any of the usability or wearability of any of the shades I tried, which has been a majority of the palette at this point. Bonus points for the huge mirror and the gorgeous travel photos on the outside of the packaging! This palette isn’t cheap but is definitely worth the money. Stay tuned for my Fall 2018 Beauty Trend series where I’ll be featuring looks from this palette!

L’Oreal Color Riche Shine in Glossy Fawn

L’Oreal really killed it with this formula and color! This is the only shade I’ve tried, but I can’t get enough. I was initially surprised I pulled the shade off- my lips are decently pigmented as is, and I really struggle finding nudes that don’t pull funny because of my lip color. This gives even pigmentation, and the formula is so comfortable. It’s not a traditional lipstick but rather has a glossy, wet effect. That being said it won’t last as long as a regular lipstick, but it’s so pretty so who cares?!

Kathleen Lights x Colourpop Lipstick in Scorpio Moon

Another one of my August favorites that’s a lipstick! This one is from the most recent Kathleen Lights x Colourpop Astrology collaboration. It’s a plum-rose color that on me pulls more plum/purple. It’s so different than anything I typically wear, and that’s why I love it! This is my second time trying the formula, and it was much better than my first experience (the color was off so it threw off my opinion the first time). The formula is so creamy and wears well throughout the day. I love wearing this with simple makeup to make a statement- one of my favorite tips for spicing any neutral or simple up (link for more here)!

Briogeo Superfood Shampoo + Conditioner

Now this stuff is probably my #1 favorite of the entire month. This combo has totally changed my hair. It’s noticeably softer, less oily, and overall stronger. I believe that a shampoo and conditioner should match because they’re technically meant to be used together. This is the first combination that I feel has actually made my hair overall better. It’s 97% derived from natural ingredients and free from parabens, silicones, phthalates, silicones, DEA, and artificial dyes. I try to steer from these ingredients in all my products (it’s hard to do it 100%), and I feel like avoiding them truly makes a difference in my skin/hair health. It’s definitely more expensive than the average shampoo/conditioner, but as I’m sure you can tell, I feel it’s 10000% worth it.

This is one of those scenarios that I’m willing to dish the money on products I know live up to their claims. Personally I’ve spent more money experimenting with products and trying to find things that work than consistency buying anything. In the long run it’s worth my investment.

elf Beautifully Bare Luminous Matte Primer

I was genuinely shocked by how much I love this primer! You wouldn’t think luminous and matte in the same type of product but this somehow does just that. It gives the face a subtle, healthy glow but keeps my skin matte all day. It doesn’t take away any shine from the foundation. I’ll even use this after moisturizer and without foundation to keep my oils at bay and my skin balanced!

My Natural Hair Texture

I used to always straighten my hair, mainly because it was short. Lately, since my hair is more of a medium length, I can get away with wearing it in its wavy, natural state- and I love it! I owe a lot of credit to Briogeo, but it still feels good to not have to feel like I need to do my hair and I can let it be.

Yellow Slides

My friends and family call these my princess shoes, and I don’t blame them! I feel like I’m a low-key Belle from Beauty and the Beast. She’s the princess I connect to the most so I feel it and I’m here for it. I love slides in general for every season because they’re so comfortable and go with anything and everything.

Tassel Earrings

My favorite summer accessory (and one of my favorite ways to spice up a neutral look) are statement earrings. The tassel detail has been super on-trend this spring/summer and will continue into fall! I love being able to wearing something basic and throwing on a pair of these to bring my look together.

Lifestyle

The Bold Type

I remember first seeing the preview for this show and thought it was the cheesiest thing ever. Nevertheless I was drawn to it and have become obsessed! It’s about three best friends who work at the same magazine a la Cosmo and go through life’s ups and downs together. They tackle a lot of social, modern issues that young people face in a way that touches your heart and is relatable. It’s a modern version of Sex and the City but better IMO. It airs on Freeform and currently off-season until Spring 2019 (side note: it left on such a heart-wrenching cliffhanger and I’m not happy about it).

Crazy Rich Asians

DON’T SLEEP ON THIS MOVIE. I can’t express how good I felt after seeing it. I love the storyline, the costumes, the actors, the music- everything. It’s such a visually appealing movie to watch, and I felt all the feels. I laughed, cried, and couldn’t stop smiling. One of the best rom-coms to come out in a while!!

The Morning Toast

If you don’t know what The Morning Toast is you’re simply NOT in tune with what’s necessary. I’ve been listening to sisters Claudia and Jackie Oshry (Girl With No Job and Jackie O Problems respectively) since they were The Morning B talk about all the latest celebrity and general news. It’s low-key one of my dreams to be able to go on as a guest/co-host (the reason has yet to be determined LOL) because they are so funny and relatable. They just get what it means to be a millennial, and I can’t imagine my workdays without their voices and opinions! You can find them on Facebook or the Podcast app, and once you convert into a Toaster (naturally you will), you can join all 75ish Toaster sub-groups on any topic you can think of.
