Please excuse my very loved, janky makeup!
Shoutout to my friend Jill for this blog idea! This is reminiscent of Jaclyn Hill’s popular Youtube tag where she and other Youtubers went through their holy grail makeup products for each category. I decided to keep this one just face products, and my post next week will be one for eyes and lips. I linked all the products I mentioned so you can check them out for yourself!
I already have a whole blog post on my favorite skincare products here. Check it out if you’re curious!
I spot-prime, meaning I use different primers that have different purposes on different areas of my face. On my forehead, outer-face, and a tiny bit on my nose I use a hydrating primer. There are soooo many to choose from on the market- I’d say most brands have their own version. Lately I’ve been loving the Smashbox Primerizer or the Maybelline Master Prime Hydrating and Smooth. I also get slightly oily in my nose/cheek and chin regions that lead to cakeyness and my foundation breaking up. To combat this, I’ve just started using the Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot. It’s really been helping control the oils from seeping through and ruining my foundation.
If you know me well, you know I’ve had a long hard struggle with finding my holy grail foundation. I’ve tried an endless amount from the drugstore and high end but have yet to find something that doesn’t get cakey or breakdown, has great lasting power, and matches my skin tone. Right now I’ve really been liking the Maybelline Super Stay Full Coverage Foundation that recently came out. Most times it looks absolutely flawless all day long and the makeup on top of it lasts. It has a pink undertone that pulls grey on me so I mix a little of my warmer foundations (Covergirl Healthy Elixir or YSL Touche Eclat Le Teint Foundation) and it’s usually fine. The finish is pretty matte, which I’m not used to, but it doesn’t hang onto my dry patches. I’m excited I’ve finally found something that seems to work for me, but if you have suggestions for any others please let me know in the comments below!
This isn’t that shocking, but my favorite concealer is the Tarte Shape Tape. It’s full coverage and brightens my under eyes which is everything I want my concealer to do. A little goes a long way so it’s worth the investment. If you haven’t tried it yet I highly suggest you do.
Since a majority of my face is dry I don’t ever powder my whole face. But to set under my eyes I love the Maybelline FitMe loose powder. It really brightens underneath my eyes and makes me look airbrushed.
I don’t contour often, but when I do I reach for my Kat Von D Shade and Light Palette. I can contour and bronze with the shades, as well as set my under eyes or use it for a quick eyeshadow look.
The only bronzer I use is the Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer! It’s a satin finish and smells like a tropical vacation. It brings such a heathy sheen to the skin. I will say that this brand doesn’t have a great shade range for many of their products, so hopefully they are working to expand so everyone can experience this amazing formula.
I didn’t realize how much I love blush until I was recently cleaning out my makeup and saw at once how many I own. This is one of my favorite steps in my makeup routine because it brings back life and dimension to the face. The one I find myself reaching for the most is the Essence Satin Touch Blush in Satin Love. They only have one another shade, Coral, and that’s also just as gorgeous. I’m disappointed they don’t have more! It’s not too pigmented, which I like in a blush because you can build it up to the intensity you want. This shade in particular is a nude-pink so it goes with pretty much every type of look.
Who doesn’t love to glow to the gods?! Highlights have become such a popular and competitive item on the market in the past couple of years. My ride-or-die is The Balm Cosmetic’s Mary-Loumanizer. It’s a light champagne color perfect for fair skin-tones. You can do one layer to keep it natural, or build it up to get it super-intense. I can never leave the house without it!
Putting on setting spray after pilling on the liquids, cremes, and powders is so refreshing. I love the Milani Make-It-Last setting spray because it’s affordable and locks my makeup into place. It’s pretty heavily scented but I don’t find it irritating. It also has alcohol in it so I suggest not spraying it on your bare skin to avoid additional dryness.
